The 2024 election news you’ve been waiting for has arrived—Morris the Cat, spokescat for 9Lives, has finally named his 2024 running mate. And the verdict is in: this presidential ticket will feature two cats!

The competition to become Morris’ running mate was competitive, with hundreds of pet owners nominating their fur babies to run alongside the orange tabby and promote his top five pawlicies.

Initial nominations were judged on the following criteria:

• Originality/creativity
• Alignment with Morris’ pawlicies
• Inspiration/inspiring story
• Vice presidential prowess

Morris the Cat’s Shortlist

Out of the 600 pets nominated, Morris and the 9Lives team selected five finalists for the public to vote on in the true spirit of depawcracy.

Casper the Dog

What a fluffy boy! Here’s what Casper’s nominator had to say about him.

“Casper is a dog of the people. He loves everyone: canine (he has two pupper siblings), feline (he has four kitty siblings) and his humans. He comes from humble roots (an animal shelter in New York). He speaks with a gentle bark, rules the house with an iron paw and shares his treats with everyone.”

Lucky Jean the Cat

A fellow feline, Lucky Jean’s nominator sung her praises in a clever poem.

“Lucky Jean, with her whiskers keen,

In debates, she’s fierce, yet calm and clean.

Her paws on the pulse, she’s sharp and lean,

The perfect VP, she’ll reign supreme.

Morris and Jean, the ultimate team,

Together, they’ll live the feline dream!”

West the Cat

West is already notorious for giving back to his community. His nominator details how:

“West would be an excellent Vice President! He is a catvocate for the right to prospurr, cat naps, kindness and care, and fostering harmony. He passionately believes in a world where anything is pawsibble. West is currently on staff at Mission Meow and makes dreams come true for small rescues across the U.S.”

Sunny the Dog

Don’t worry, dog lovers. Sunny the dog is here to represent your fur babies! Learn her story:

“Sunny is here to represent the canines on the ticket! Most importantly, the rescue dogs. Her life started being abandoned in a basement and she’s spent the last 8 years snuggling her way up to being the best co-worker, silliest couch dweller and the kindest soul!”

Oscar the Cat

That is one well-dressed kitty cat. Oscar is not only fashionable—he’s very versatile!

“Oscar is ready to tackle all issues that any Vice President may be confronted with. From choosing the best toys to play with, finding the best locations to nap, and working well with others. He also has the presidential purr down!”

Oscar the Cat Earns VP Bid

The votes have been counted, and America’s pick is in: Oscar the Cat has been elected to serve as Morris the Cat’s VP!

“It was clear from his nomination that Oscar has a lot in common with Morris – from loving naps to paws-itively working well with others – so two cats is absolutely better than one!” Koch says.

In addition to winning a $1000 cash prize, Oscar and his owner got to designate a $35,000 donation to an animal shelter of their choice. They selected Humane Society of Huron Valley located in Ann Arbor, MI, who played a part in Oscar’s rescue story.

Oscar and his dad delivered the check in person on Election Day alongside Koch.
