Over 2,500 dogs entered the 148th Annual Westminster Dog Show, but only one emerged with the title “Best in Show.” This year, that honor was bestowed upon Sage, a four-year-old female miniature poodle from Texas, and her handler Kaz Hosaka. Sage is the first female dog to be named Best in Show since the 2020 Westminster Dog Show.
“I have no words…I’m so proud of this dog,” says Hosaka.
2024 is also a monumental milestone for Hosaka, marking his 45th Westminster Dog Show. Hosaka notes it will also be his last. What a way to enter retirement!
Reserve Best in Show, the runner-up, was bestowed upon Mercedes the German shepherd. Mercedes won her breed and group earlier this week. Check out the other group winners below.
Herding group: Mercedes, a German shepherd
Hound group: Louis, an Afghan hound
Working group: Monty, a giant schnauzer
Sporting group: Micah, a cocker spaniel
Terrier group: Frankie, a bull terrier
Non-sporting group: Sage, a miniature poodle
Toy group: Comet, a shi tzu
Mrs. Rosalind Kramer from High Point, North Carolina, was the Best in Show judge and shared how absolutely delighted she was with this year’s lineup before announcing the night’s top dogs.
“I want to thank every dog, whether you’re a house dog or a show dog, because you make our lives whole,” says Kramer.
