Viva Recalls Select Dog and Cat Food Due to Salmonella and Listeria Contamination

Viva Raw LLC has voluntarily recalled six of the brand’s dog and cat food recipes due to the risk of Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The affected products were distributed nationwide between July 2 and August 21, 2025.

Here’s what to know about this recall and how to react if your pet’s food was affected.

What Products Were Affected?

Across the two recalled lots, a total of six pet food recipes were recalled after routine testing was conducted by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture. Photos and lot numbers of each affected product can be found below.

Viva Ground Beef for Dogs: Lot 21495

Viva Beef & Turkey for Puppies: Lot 21495

Viva Ground Chicken for Dogs: Lot 21975

Viva Chunked Chicken for Dogs: Lot 21975

Viva Chicken for Cats: Lot 21975

Viva Pure Chicken: Lot 21975

Symptoms of Listeria and Salmonella Contamination

While no illnesses have been reported in connection to this recall, pet owners in possession of the recalled Viva Raw products should monitor themselves and members of their household for the following symptoms caused by Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella:

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Abdominal cramping
  • Fever
  • Arterial infections
  • Endocarditis
  • Arthritis
  • Muscle pain
  • Eye irritation
  • Urinary tract symptoms

What to Do If Your Pet’s Food Was Affected

The FDA advises any individuals who have products from Lot 21495 or Lot 21975 to contact Viva Raw for a refund.

Then, dispose of the affected food away from children, pets, and wildlife and sanitize any and all food dishes and storage containers. Finally, make sure to wash and sanitize your hands after handling the recalled product to prevent illness.
